A Mount Gilead Police Officer is in jail today, accused of accepting stolen property. Joe Hughes has been placed on unpaid administrative leave after deputies with the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on his home.
The deputies found a trailer and several air-conditioners before placing Hughes under arrest on charges of tampering with evidence, theft in office, receiving stolen property, and obstruction of justice.
The property belonged to the Morrow County Commissioners and Hughes took the theft report on June 9th.
Hughes could get up to 12 months on each charge, while Morrow County Sheriff Steve Brenneman said more charges could be coming.
