About 2 million Americans -- including some Ohioans -- are received a raise Thursday as a new federal minimum wage takes effect.
It's rising 70 cents, from $5.85 to $6.55 per hour.
Ohio is one of 23 states with their own, higher minimum wage. In Ohio, it's $7 an hour.
However, small Ohio businesses making less than $255,000 a year may pay the lower federal minimum to their employees. It also applies to 14- and 15-year-old workers in Ohio.
