A newspaper is reporting that a surge in Democratic signups over the last four years has given Ohio almost a million more registered Democrats than Republicans.
A story from the AP says, the Columbus Dispatch reported Friday that its analysis of data from the Ohio Secretary of State's office shows the number of registered Ohio Democrats has risen 72 percent since the summer before the last presidential election, to about 2.41 million. The Republican rolls have gone up 32 percent, to 1.47 million.
Experts say Republican scandals at the state level and an unpopular administration at the national level have helped to swell the ranks of Ohio Democrats. They say the party also drew new voters for this year's hotly contested primary between Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton.
