Tri-Rivers Laying Off 15 Employees

03-20-2009

Tri-Rivers is telling 15 employees their jobs will be cut in an effort to cut costs. Superintendent Chuck Speelman said on Thursday that 8 non-certified and 7 certified employees would be informed Friday that their job will be cut.

The move is expected to save $1.1 million and help balance Tri-Rivers’ five-year forecast.

Speelman cautioned the cuts would not be confirmed or official until the school board meets and votes on April 15th.

“Revenue is down, expenses are up so we need to make cuts,” Speelman said.

As a result of the layoffs, two programs will collapse and two more will be combined.

Certified employees are typically teachers or administrators. Non-certified, or classified, employees are typically jobs like janitors and cooks.

Most of the cut certified positions will end June 2nd. The laid-off non-certified employees will have various cut-off dates, ranging from the end of May to the end of June.
