The starting date has been pushed back for a new state law requiring children ages 4 to 8 and under 4 feet, 9 inches tall to be buckled into car booster seats.
A story from the AP says, originally, safety advocates thought the law would begin next month. But the new law will now be effective Oct. 7. For the first six months, warnings will be given by law enforcement and tickets will be issued beginning April 7, 2010.
However, safety advocates stress that doesn't mean you shouldn't get your children in booster seats now, since it's their safety that's most important.
Booster seats literally boost a child up higher in the back seat to allow the seat belt to rest on portions of the body that can better withstand a potential crash.
