Lots Of Changes Proposed For Ohio Elections

04-24-2009

Ohio's elections chief recommended Wednesday that provisional ballot and voter identification laws be simplified, as consensus builds to change state election laws after months of partisan bickering.

A story from the AP says, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner issued formal recommendations to the Legislature and Gov. Ted Strickland after two conferences and months of discussions with election officials, academics and lawmakers.

Strickland, a Democrat, vetoed a Republican attempt to change election laws immediately following the November election, saying the GOP was rushing changes while they still controlled both chambers of the Legislature without knowing the consequences. But it appears that Brunner, lawmakers of both parties and local elections officials are now closing in on broad changes that most can agree upon.

Some of the ideas Brunner is proposing were included in the bill that Strickland vetoed.
